They have the two guys from the video in custody and those two guys are extras on Empire and claim to be friends of Smollett. He previously identified the guys in the video as looking like the people that attacked him. It's pretty obvious at this point that it's a hoax although Chicago PD won't confirm anything in the media. Likely because they are pursuing charges against Smollett. This incident plus the FBI investigation into the letters sent to the show could mean jail time for Smollett.As for Fox, that doesn't mean anything. Studios support shows one week and cancel them the next. When I was looking to see how well the show is rated, lots of insiders suspected that the show has the potential to be cut due to flagging preferred demographics. |

My expectation is that one or both of those two men will crack. When the video was released Smollett already told the police that those could be the guys. If they don't cooperate soon they risk going to jail for a fake crime.The police have consistently denied everything in the media and at least some of it appears to be true. They found out who these guys were early on by tracing uber records. How the hell does that work? Patriot Act? My guess is the FBI is also involved because they were involved when the letter was found at the set. The FBI may have also been able to get the flight records for when they return but maybe the police can get that themselves. |

My assumption has always been that the police can obtain any electronic record of your movements at any time. A big-city police department certainly has the resources to do it. I'd be very surprised if the cops don't have details of Jussie's movements and phone calls, too, whether or not the actor was willing to provide them himself. |
