The boom-recession cycle typically runs in 7(ish) year spurts. 2008 recession ran to 2016, this boom started, will most likely end in 2023.As for political effects on such things, I think that while politics can effect how bullish / bearish the market is, the overall direction cannot be changed. |

We've had steady slow, actual growth since 2010. Probably would have continued (witness 2017, when trump did nothing economically until the very end) had he acted as he did in 2017(not), but he did a stupid needless tax cut and then trade wars and now everything's disrupted.Throughout 2018, the signs things were falling apart began in the first quarter and now they're here. Basically trump tossed a perfectly good economy. Some "businessman". |

The economy is showing signs of slowing down. Case in point: For the week ending Feb. 9, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 519,779 carloads and intermodal units, up 0.1% compared with the same week last year. Total carloads were 242,266, down 3.3% compared with the same week in 2018. Only three of the 10 carload commodity groups posted an increase compared with the same week in 2018.Carloads and intermodal units are an early warning sign into the state of the economy. |
