"Palestine" is an exonym for Israel used by Europeans for centuries. An exonym is when a country has a different name in a foreign language. Like the way we call Deutschland Germany and Nihon Japan in English. Israelis are and always were "Palestinians." But just as we stopped using the exonym Persia in favor of the endonym Iran, so has Palestine come to be called by its proper name in the West. This "Palestinian" stuff is an attempt to erase the history of Israel.

In the 1939 World's Fair, accessible using the then new Grand Central Parkway, there was a "Jewish Palestine Pavilion."

I resent the attacks on carpetbaggers largely because I know the history of the term. During Reconstruction, "carpetbagger" was used as an epithet against Northerners who came to the South to effectuate Reconstruction. As someone who laments the failure of Reconstruction, I have great respect for the original "carpetbaggers" and their allies the "scalawags" who were the Southerners who supported Reconstruction. The use of the term "carpetbagger" in modern times is yet another example of Southern Revisionism.

Even if you use a different term for the concept of a person running in another constituency than the one they were born in, I don't have a problem with that, either. I've always considered myself an American first; no wonder I disdain Confederate traitors. That and it's a UNITED STATES Senator. They should all serve national interests and not local interests. Local interests belong in the City Council or the State Legislature.

"Booby Kennedy", as Jimmy Hoffa used to call him, could not run for the Senate in his native Massachusetts without offending the Democratatic Party Establishment, so he chose the nearest state with the most liberal residency rules- New York.

I agree with you on the Confederates being traitors. Jefferson Davis should have been hanged, wearing the dress he was caught in, while trying to escape the Union Army.
