From the photos, it appeared much MUCH worse on the inside than the Loews Kings. The Loews Kings needs works, but it's far from "in shambles". The Loew's Kings is more a "diamond in the rough", the Loews Shores IS in shambles, the Kings is not.

From the photos though, it is probably repairable, or at least appears to be. I would compare the photos of the Loews Shore to interior shots of the New Amsterdam I have seen from before the renovation. (Probably much worse than the New Amsterdam though, as there is a lot of plaster missing from the ceiling).
All the seats are ripped out in the shore, the walls are black, and the plaster deteriorating. The juliet balconies have been ripped out (but so were the New Amsterdam's, and they were replicated in the renovation). I think the Shore may have been closed a lot longer than the Kings was, so thus much MUCH worse.
There is lots and lots of water damage (perhaps severe, but it's hard to tell from a photo) on the plaster on the ceiling of the auditorium from what I remember from the photos, so water is or was seaping in through the roof for years.
The water damage was so severe, that the entire top of the procenium arch over the stage/screen has fallen to the ground, and all the plaster above it, till it reached the center dome of the ceiling. There is also large chunks of plaster missing from above the right hand Juliet balcony arched area too.
The damge above the stage and top of procenium arch is SEVERE, as it's all gone there from the water damage, it has fallen to the floor.
The balcony railing ballistrades appeared to be intact, although all the seats are gone there too.

The theater will take millions, if not a billion to repair. It's really in very sad shape inside. We can only ask that either Mark or RIPTAHope would repost their photos, but that of course would be their call.

My only reaction :O

Both theatres need attention and tragically they are both deteriorating fast and if this continues, there will be no point in renovating. I hope they fix both. On a side note: of all the wonder theatres the Kings is the last remaining to be back. We lost the Valencia and 175th (Wish they were still theatres but they are still intact atleast). Thankfully the Paradise and Jersey city are back and/or coming back. All thats left is the Kings. The Shore theatre itself from what I am hearing needs work very fast before its declared unsafe to be up like the Thunderbolt rollercoaster. Thanks a lot for the info. (one quick thing again, isn't the King worse I hear it has a hole in the roof, bad seats etc.?) Thanks

I have seen only photos of the inside of the SHore, and yes, I would probably agree, if it is to be saved, it will have to be soon, as from the photos, again, it is very close to the point of no return.
The Kings on the other hand, I have seen photos and video footage, and while it is definitely in the need of lots of help, it certainly doesn't appear to have reached the shambles that the Shore is in. Seats are the least of the problems, but there are NO seats in the Shore. And there is a HUGE hole in the ceiling above the old stage/screen, and huge section has fallen to the floor. I guess it could be reinstalled, but it could be to the point that the rest of the ceiling, while still up, is also ready to fall too. When one section is lose, I am sure the remaining parts may be too.
I don't believe the Kings has gotten to that point yet, not even close. DOn't get me wrong, the Kings needs help, and needs it soon, however, it has a lot more going for it yet than the Shore does. I think it "could" almost be too far for the Shore already. if not, it's at the cusp.

BTW, even though they don't show movies, we certainly didn't lose either the Valencia or the 175th. Both theaters are in impeccible condition, and maintained beautifully, even if by churches. Churches like that could be a God-sent (pun intended) for these old theaters. If not for the churches taking them over, they would have surely been lost or gutted.
Look at the old Loews Bushwick on Broadway in Bushwick, and it's nearby cousin the Loews Gates theater too. They weren't "wonder theaters" like the other 7, but they certainly were beutiful theaters.
WHen the Bushwick closed in 1969, a church soon took over. Then some years later, the Loews Gates closed, and for some reason the congregation moved into the Gates when it became available instead. That left the Bushwick Vacant, at which time it spent the next 30 years falling into shambles, until finally put out of it's misery, and gutted inside, and at least it's shell remains as the Acorn School. The moral? The Loews Gates theater is completely intact and alive and well....even if a church..... it sure obtained a much nicer fate than the Bushwick did....

Disney was lured to do Penns Landing in Philly too. Just like Chicago and other cities it was supposed to be a Disneyquest I think. Politics killed the project.
Which is good as they all closed except for Orlando and Chicago.

If it was gonna be an entertainment and bar district like Pleasure Island, imo you were better off not getting it.

I believe that was originaly a "Child's Restaurant", which was a popular chain restaurant "back in the day". I don't know what it's last incarnation was, or if it has been closed since Child's went out of business. Either way, I am sure it's not in good shape inside.

Someone just reposted photos from the Shore Theater at cinematreasures, here they are. And these they say were taken in 2004, I'm sure it didn't get batter in those two years since....
These really show how bad the place really is. I'm afraid nothing short of Disney could help this place:

Here's a photo of the ceiling completely fallen down at the top of the procenium arch, and over the stage, right up to the center of the ceiling circle:

Here's another photo, showing all the water damage in the balcony area:

The Kings is bad, but not as bad as the shore. I'm afraid nothing short of a miracle will help the place at this point.

Isn't there an organization like the Friends of Loews who can help this stuff. I mean they did fix the Jersey City so why not the Shore even the Kings. The city should do something fast to save this great place.

With money, anything can be done, so sure it's definitely possible to salvage. ANd sinced it's so bad, it will take a lot. Even the plaster that hasn't dropped yet may be loose enough from all the neglect and water that it may not be salvagable either. I'm not an engineer, and of course I haven't seen it first hand, but when large sections of plaster have come down (such as what happened over the stage), it's not good.

It better be soon, as each year it gets worse and worse.

Childs Restaurant on the Boardwalk...Re: Whats Happening to Coney Island?

The building on the boardwalk is one of 2 Childs Restaurants that were in Coney Island. According to Kevin Walsh's book, it was built in 1924 for Childs by architects Ethan Dennison and Frederic Hirons "with an exterior of soft stucco and four marble columns emphasized by four multicolored rondels depicting King Neptune; a Venetian galleon: the Golden Hind, the flagship of Queen Elizabeth's fleet; and two fish swimming in rough seas. This Childs branch closed in the 1950's and later became a candy factory. In 2003, it was, thankfully declared a landmark."

A couple of years ago, I rode past Childs on my bike, and couldn't believe my eyes. The entire front had been redone and there were signs that it had become a community center. I was amazed and mentioned it on a Coney Island messageboard and was embarrassed to learn that it was being used as a movie set for Sandra Bullock's "Two Weeks Notice".

Landmarking means that a building has some historical or architectural significance. It does not necessarily mean that the building is suitable for conversion into some economicially viable use.

Actually, while we were talking about the Loews Kings, and how beautiful it was, here's a GREAT video here about the Kings. Dial up users, don't even bother, because it will even take a few minutes to load for broadband users, but man, is it WORTH the wait. It has CURRENT interior video of the Kings. Again, it needs some help, but it's definitely not as bad or even near as bad as the old SHore Theater (Loews COney Island).

Anyway, here's the video, it's WORTH the wait, it contains both current and historical footage:
