(That means they had a say in the direction of the largest empire in the world at any time.) His campaign for repeal of the Act of Union was less successful, mostly because of infighting caused by leftists. Before 1916, what most Irish people wanted was home rule, like Canada's dominion status. They hated the notion of breaking with the rest of Britain. |
