Traffic symbols used to be semaphores that said stop and go. Then we went to colored lights because symbols and colors are faster to grasp. Same with the iconic pedestrian symbols, faster to grasp by pedestrians. |

If you can serve the needs of the few without significant cost to the many, it is usually a worthwhile activity. There wasn't any massive program to eliminate "Dont Walk" signs - it's been a phase-out over many years as signs were being replaced anyway. |
