Sorry folks, Christmas has been cancelled this year

Posted by orange blossom special on Sun Dec 17 11:03:48 2017

The mayor of Nazareth has cancelled traditional outdoor songs and plays celebrating Christmas in the city where Jesus spent his childhood.

Mayor Ali Salam, who once made the curious boast that U.S. President Donald Trump “learned everything from me” about how to win elections, indicated that he was punishing local and visiting Christians as revenge for the President’s decision to officially recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"The decision [by Donald Trump about Jerusalem] has taken away the joy of the holiday, and we will thus cancel the festivities this year.”

According to the Bible, the city of Nazareth is where the archangel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary she would bear the Saviour, making it one Christianity’s holiest sites… [And therefore obviously it is a Muslim city with mayor]

Nazareth cancels Christmas celebrations to protest US move on Jerusalem

Annual festival and market axed by Muslim mayor, who says Trump's recognition of capital has 'taken away the joy of the holiday'

By Sue Surkes

Christmas celebrations in Nazareth — Jesus’ childhood hometown, according to Christian belief — have been canceled to protest the US president’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The city council announced Thursday that Mayor Ali Salam, a Muslim, had ordered the axing of all planned artistic events, including a festival and large Christmas market.

“Our identity and faith aren’t up for debate,” Salam said. “The decision [by Donald Trump about Jerusalem] has taken away the joy of the holiday, and we will thus cancel the festivities this year.”

Nazareth is one of the holiest cities in Christendom because it was there that the angel Gabriel is believed by Christians to have told the Virgin Mary she would conceive and bear Jesus.

According to the New Testament, Jesus also grew up in the town.

The annual celebrations are a major tourist draw and source of income for the city, which is inhabited primarily by Arab citizens of Israel, two-thirds of whom are Muslim and the remaining third Christian.

In an address last Wednesday from the White House, Trump defied worldwide warnings and insisted that after repeated failures to achieve peace, a new approach was long overdue.

He described his decision to recognize Jerusalem as the seat of Israel’s government as merely based on reality.

The move was hailed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and by leaders across much of the Israeli political spectrum, and condemned by the vast majority of the international community. Trump stressed that he was not specifying the boundaries of Israeli sovereignty in the city, and called for no change in the status quo at the city’s holy sites.

Well, I hope the Christians don't listen to him and gather and sing Christmas carols anyway, just to spite that Savage. The spirit is room for him, not everyone else! I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The world would be a better place without the specific ideology and that followers.

The city is 59 percent Arab these days. The Arabs are 69 percent Muslim, 30.9 percent Christian and the remaining 0.1 percent is probably "other".

How are Christians being punished? They can still worship Christ in the same places and times as last year.

Shopkeepers are being punished by being deprived of tourist dollars, but that has nothing to do with Christmas.

I disagree. When Arafat was in charge, he used to stress the fact that Islam recognizes Jesus as a holy prophet and that Jesus is regarded as holy from God in the Koran. Google "Jesus in Islam" and see for yourself. Christmas in Bethlehem was a big deal.

Conversely, Arafat would be sure to tell Christians that Judaism completely rejects Jesus from a religious standpoint, not to mention the whole betrayal to the Romans and the crucifixion.

I can't help but notice that all the classics (written by Jews), or all the old radio and television shows (usually done by Jews back then), didn't mention anything about the savior and little about shopping. It was all mitzvos and goodwill!

Ah, you're talking about civil Christmas, not religious Christmas. Well I admit, that stupid mayor did put a tiny dent into civil Christmas. The tourists going to Nazareth will be disappointed.

But he's spitting into the wind. Civil Christmas is doing better than ever. Stores are selling more stuff than ever. Santa Claus is doing wonderfully. Even the calendar is cooperating, by putting civil Christmas on a Monday so it can be preceded with two blow-out weekend shopping days. One Muslim mayor can't stop the forces of commerce!
