According to the networks, they alternated every Presidential election between red for Republicans/blue for Democrats and red for Democrats/blue for Republicans. No one paid much attention to the colors until the election of 2000, the controversial Bush v. Gore contest, which happened to be a year they were using red for Republicans and blue for Democrats. Suddenly, everyone became aware of the colors, and the colors used that year stuck. |
