EXCLUSIVE: City Council candidate slammed for 'greedy Jewish landlords' remark in fund-raising email

City pols are blasting City Council candidate Thomas Lopez-Pierre for his latest inflammatory comments about “greedy Jewish landlords.”

Lopez-Pierre, who ran a fringe campaign for an uptown Council seat in 2013 that drew attention for his racist and anti-Semitic rhetoric, is now running against incumbent Mark Levine.

He blasted out a fund-raising e-mail earlier this month with the subject line “SAVE HARLEM from Greedy Jewish Landlords.”

“Greedy Landlords and NYC Council Member Mark Levine are working together to push Black and Hispanic tenants out of Harlem!” he wrote, going on to charge that Levine, “the only Jewish person in the race,” only won in 2013 because there were eight black and Hispanic candidates running against him.

City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Controller Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James, Rep. Jerry Nadler and others penned a letter to Lopez-Pierre demanding he apologize.

“Such rhetoric has no place in our society, and certainly does not belong in a political campaign,” they wrote.

“Your repeated references to ‘greedy Jewish landlords’ in your most recent email play on a long-established anti-Semitic trope,” the group of 14 elected officials wrote.

“Your reference to your opponent as the ‘only Jewish candidate in the race’ and frequent depiction of him in religious garb amount to gratuitous targeting of him based on religion.”

Lopez-Pierre has also sent e-mails using the n-word to refer to a fundraiser backing his opponent and sparked a bizarre incident where an Assemblywoman accused him of touching her buttocks and he lashed out at her as a “political slut.”

The group also launched a petition asking New Yorkers to register their opposition to Lopez-Pierre.

“Your divisive efforts have no place in our political culture,” they wrote. “We call on you to cease this deplorable behavior at once.”

Democratic Council Candidate Admits To Being A Liar, Denies Being An Anti-Semite

A controversial candidate for New York City Council said he didn’t tell the truth.

The average political candidate tries to avoid being caught in a lie, but Thomas Lopez-Pierre is not the average political candidate.

A democrat running in northern Manhattan denied being an anti-Semite, but admitted to being a liar.

As CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported, he lied on Twitter and lied to a newspaper, and then admitted it.

“It’s one big lie. I lied to the New York Post,” he said.

Lopez-Pierre has been making waves and headlines with his rants against what he called ‘greedy Jewish landlords’ who he claims are driving longtime residents out of gentrifying uptown neighborhoods.

A few days ago, someone created a GoFundMe page to raise money to stop Lopez-Pierre’s ‘hate campaign.’

On Wednesday, the candidate claimed on Twitter that he was actually behind that Go Fund Me page — a story he confirmed to the Post.

“Yes, I lied,” he said. “My intention was to cause dissension in the ranks, confusion, and discourage people from contributing to a campaign, a Go Fund Me campaign that would basically work against my political interests.”

In his campaign bio Lopez-Pierre said he’s a Christian ‘saved by God’s grace.’

When asked if “grace should keep you from lying in such a flagrant way,” he responded, “I’m a sinner.”

He showed no apparent shame or regret, which was no surprise to Councilman David Greenfield who wants Lopez-Pierre kicked out of the party.

“He lies so much and he’s such a con artist you can’t even tell whether or not he’s lying to you now about having lied,” Greenfield (D-Borough Park) said.

“I don’t have the big money to run against the powerful real estate interests. I’ve had to be creative in terms of how to generate public exposure for my campaign, and the rights of tenants,” Lopez-Pierre countered.

The Manhattan Democrats said party lawyers are reviewing what to do about Lopez-Pierre.

A spokesman for GoFundMe said the money raised in the online campaign has been frozen while the service investigates.

Well, not that I keep score but we have anti-Semitic comments on those DNC emails & Keith Ellison as Vice Chairman of the new DNC. So why should another anti-Semite running for office in the DNC surprise you. They are just reverting to form.

Saying greedy Jewish landlord is equivalent of saying those sloppy Irish drunks. If you say the latter, it does not mean that you hate the Celtic people all the people of Ireland, if you say the former, no matter what the professional victims want you to think, it does not make you an anti-semite or against the Jewish people as a whole.
