Looks a bit like a shrunken Olympic Class Washington State Ferry.

I notice that the new ferries may not have public outlets to charge phones, etc.

Breeds too much violence.

Probably not as a security measure. It's bad enough that everyone taking a bicycle must be sniffed for contraband.

I asked why my bike had to be searched, and the security guard told me people have smuggled bombs onto bikes before. I told him that while bike bombs are a thing, car bombs were far more prevalent than bike bombs, and we don't check every car going over the Brooklyn Bridge. He told me I had a good point.

Car bombers lately seem to want to survive these days, so they leave their bombs parked somewhere. You can't just stop a car on the Brooklyn Bridge and walk away and not expect to get stopped.
