They do have a terrible voter turnout rate, particularly in non-Presidential years.

The 2 in my office don't even listen to the news. They didn't even know there was a NJT Bus T-bone accident in Newark that morning until I told them.

You are paranoid.

When I used a clock-radio, I used the buzzer, not the radio. When the clock radio broke in 2008, I went to Walmart and only found dedicated alarm clocks (no radio), so that's what I used until 2012-13. I also have not owned a radio since.

I currently use my iPhone and Apple Watch. If something important happens overnight, I can read the CNN alert on the lock screen. The Newark bus crash was not important enough to show up as a CNN alert.

As a comparison, the Hoboken crash today was.

Hoboken crash thus far is 1 dead. Newark bus crash was 2 dead. In terms of death count, Newark's was worse, but now obviously 100 injured and a structural station collapse and outage.

Buzzer is too startling to wake up to.
CNN won't tell you most local news.

I also have a battery transistor radio. Sandy had my power out for 5 days. Don't count on driving anywhere, because gas stations could not pump gas. Forget about recharging your phone. 9v battery lasts longer than what a Smartphone has, especially since you use yours for everything.

There are apps for local news. Local news is less interesting.

But you haven't told me what I would find the radio useful for. What were you so eager to find out during Hurricane Sandy? Whether it was safe to go outside yet? They weren't going to tell you when you would get your power back.

That's wonderful, and great for you, no one is knocking YOU for doing that, but that doesn't assume everyone else enjoys that, or that it's even close to the norm, as it's not.

Okay, so you sit in silence driving? Use CD's or something? So again, many (most?) don't listen to the news in the car either.
