Why assume there was nothing prior to the Big Bang? A number of cosmogenic theories attempt to explain the origin of the universe, including the interactions of higher dimension branes, strings, the result of dark energy creating a big rip in a prior universe, or a self-creating closed loop.

Of course our inability to make observations before 13 billion years ago and the breakdown of phyiscal models at the Planck Time scale makes any cosmogenic discussion about as metaphysical as that related to religion. But the non-uniformity of cosmic microwave background radiation may point to something before the big bang which kept the universe from being uniform.

hear you...kind of. but it doesn't matter what the form is. doesn't matter if there were twenty prior universes. dont matter who "god" is. point is, "something" came from "nothing". a concept that's hard to grasp, and then some.

Why? How do you know something came from nothing? What if there were always something and there will always be something?

Something cannot come from nothing.

If there always was something, that means that time had no beginning. But then that means that an infinite amount of time has elapsed for the present moment to arrive, which is itself impossible. An infinite amount of time by definition cannot elapse.

I disagree that the universe (or whatever) is impossible.

It is possible to reconcile all of the above.

I don't agree with your definition. Time can be infinite.

Assume that you are correct that something can't come from nothing, then where did God come from?

Do you think that an infinite amount of time can elapse?

I cannot speak for all theists but I do not see God as either coming from something or coming from nothing. That which is timeless does not "come."

So there you go. You create a "god" outside of the laws of the Universe for the sole purpose of solving a mystery of the Universe.

Besides the fact that you are clearly in a desperate rush to get God into this and get Him out of the way, you have failed to address the arguments. All of them. Typical atheist. All emotional.

The thead was about the universe. He asked a question about God, Who I had no plan on mentioning anytime soon. He got an answer to his question about God. Not liking it, he said I made up God for the purposes of solving a mystery of the universe. I never tried to solve the mystery here, let alone use God to do so. He wants to defend atheism. I want to talk about the universe.

Then why would you twice introduce into the thread a character you take to be fictional? And do you have any viable model to propose?
