Dangerous Robo Call |
|
Posted by Bill Newkirk on Mon Jul 25 11:41:08 2016 I received a message on my digital answerer,a robo call stating that this was the IRS and that I owed them money for failure to pay back taxes.I hung up. The phone number on my caller ID was 404-221-5444. The area code location was in California. Where do you report these nuisance calls ? Here's an article that deals with this crap. Bill Newkirk |

I get that all the time.Best thing to do is just hang up (I do within 3 seconds). Reporting it to the FCC can be done but that is just about as effective as the "Do Not Call" Registry. |

Their game is they have you buy a ridiculous amount of iTunes Gift Cards (full amount they're asking for) and then redeem the serial numbers on their site. For those who are savvy enough to smell the rat even after doing this, if you get to the iTunes store folks before they cash out, it can be stopped. However, if they've cashed out, you're SOL. Google "Russian Business Network", that's who this is. They're kinda out of our reach, they're with Putin. |

I was registered and still got annoying calls, especially at dinner time. GROWL!! I tried Nomorobo and it works pretty good. Unfortunately, that IRS call came through. Bill Newkirk |

Lots of people lost their entire life savings from these calls. :- ( Bill Newkirk |

Gift cards can only be cashed in at the site they belong to, not anywhere else such as the IRS. Worst part is that the redeem code can't be followed back or traced, so once they're redeemed, that money is gone. |

We manage to stop the other 96%. Should have been more clear I guess. But the Russkies DO get about 4% of those cashed out before the customer gets to us. |

Sounds a lot like that equally stupid Microsoft scammer phone call I got back in 2012. After about two minutes of attempted phishing to get my info with that annoying voice, I told the caller, 'Go f**k yourself!', and hung up. Problem solved. |

Supposedly they scam across all ages, mostly people who can't afford it. Even sadder is that all correspondence from IRS, as well their website warns that the IRS only does postal mail, any other contact is bogus. And still ... :( |
