Yep...First situation I remember was Mr O'Malley trying to hold up NYC for a new ballpark in Brooklyn. Simply put, the City (Mayor Wagner & Robert Moses in particular) said no & off they went to Los Angeles. AFAIK, The Brooklyn Dodgers were the only franchise to move that was making money.Several years later they (taxpayers) built Shea Stadium for the Mets. My how attitudes can change in a few years. |
