The wisdom of Boyd Packer

A leader of the LDS Church, who just died.

Most of his list of the bad things in this world are to be expected. But one on his list impresses me.

So what's bad?

Feminists
Homosexuals
Intellectuals (Really? So what if a devout Mormon is a really smart thinker?)

Profanity
Coffee
Tobacco
Alcohol
Drugs

And finally:
Bad music

Religion depends on a certain amount of naievity, to but it politely. That ensures compliance with the dogma, which doesn't stand up well if one is curious enought to check out behind that curtain. So I can understand his dislike of intellectuals who are more likely to call the bullshit as they see it.

It's not intellectuals being on the list that impresses me. It's the bad music. Sure, there is plenty of music that he must have thought was terrible. But to put it on the list with all those other anethemas, that's impressive.

I'm surprised about the bad music, but not at all impressed.

The intellectuals of my religion have tended to do very well with its dogma over the centuries. I myself spent quite some time looking up, down, left, and right at it and it's more than logical.

The silly things some secularists would have me believe, on the other hand. . .

First we don't know what your religion is for certain. So any statement you make about it is nothing more than opinion.

Ok, so it's possible that it's dogmas are logical. Fair enough.

Not in my opinion. They are generally repressive.
