Monuments to the Confederacy |
|
Posted by Spider-Pig on Fri Jul 3 09:58:35 2015 There are some who claim that it’s barbarism to knock down monuments to the Confederacy and to Confederate “heroes.”So was it barbarism when the USSR and its satellites knocked down monuments to Vladimir Lenin and Karl Marx? Or earlier when Khrushchev knocked down the monuments to Stalin? Should they have kept them all as “history?” |

An entire class of people targeted for oppression. Forced labor. Extensive deaths of oppressed minorities resulting from the forced labor system. Extremely strong penalties for questioning authority. The only difference is that Stalin engaged in the deliberate murder of large numbers of people. The South simply financed a slave trade that they knew would result in the deaths of large numbers of people. |

Are you saying it was bad that, once more freedom was allowed in the USSR, people knocked down statues of Marx and Lenin? If you think it was good, then what is your complaint about his post? |

It was after the USSR fell and just before that while it was in its death throes. The CSA fell and yet they still built monuments to their “heroes” afterwards. |
