I did not attend church this weekend

I did not attend church this weekend because AlM and Jorge Mario Bergoglio both pissed me off.

AlM, with his usual bullshit. He fits right in with today's misandrist minded church environment.

Jorge Mario Bergoglio with his comments about helping refugees in Europe.

It's getting harder and harder to support an establishment that attracts people like these men.

Plus, they would have brought up Nepal.

That must be one of the benefits of being Jewish, like Terrapin Station , Mitch45, and Jeff Rosen. Their synagogues probably don't have to collect money and food for Jewish Relief Services. Why? Because Jews don't run missions to recruit to their religion like Christians do.

Wrong. Jews very often give money to non Jewish causes such as disaster relief.

I know what you said.

So you think Christian Churches only collect money to help disaster victims so they can turn around and preach to them and convert them while they are helping them?

Yes. There is a battle for membership.

Catholics vs. Evangelicals. That is the main event.

Lucky for the Jewish faith, you don't have to waste time with that stuff. The problem facing Judaism is negative birthrate and gynocentricism in the Reform temples.

If we collect money it is to help the people, not convert them. However I suspect that that is the main goal of most of the Christian groups as well. I think that as usual, you are wrong.

fiogf49gjkf0d
well it's to help but the goal, or investment, is conversion.

That's why these missions target the poorest people and get excited about these catastrophes. Catholics are trying to retain members while other groups are trying to convert. THIW

but why?

For Christians, it's mainly for conversion, or retention.

It's almost like a marketing strategy.

Hello Mitch45, and thank you for your participation in this thread.

Sadly, it's not just religion, but governments as well. both like to spring into action to look good in these situations, like the one in Nepal.

And as I said, for Christianity it's a numbers game. But it's interesting to know Jewish relief groups are there too.

There's an important theme in Judaism called "tikkun olam." It means "repairing (or healing) the world." The phrase has origins in classical rabbinic literature and is used in the Mishnah (the body of classical rabbinic teachings codified circa 200 C.E.). There, it refers to social policy legislation providing extra protection to those potentially at a disadvantage, e.g., just conditions for the writing of divorce decrees and for the freeing of slaves.

More recently the phrase “tikkun olam” was first used to refer to social action work in the 1950s. In subsequent decades, many other organizations and thinkers have used the term to refer to social action programs; tzedakah (charitable giving) and gemilut hasadim (acts of kindness); and progressive Jewish approaches to social issues.

Tikkun Olam now is most often used to refer to a specific category of good deeds involving work for the improvement of society — a usage perhaps closer to the term’s classical rabbinic origins.

Very long Will D length post.

So what the fuck?

Anyway, there will be a huge Christian presence to recruit and retain members. Jews as a whole don't have to get involved with this stuff.
