Why would I not have heard about it? That was absolutely horrible. I finished the biography of Gen. Douglas MacArthur yesterday and this morning I began reading "Shake Hands With the Devil" which is about the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Evil is as evil does.Speaking of violence, I'll be in Cleveland later this month just as things begin to heat up, literally and figuratively, in that war zone. You will remember last year I discussed with eloquence gang activity in East Cleveland. Cleveland's gangs are small groups making them more ruthless and ready to prove themselves. The gangs are very active and rivalry is everywhere in Cleveland's East Side and takes many victims annually. Some of the sets I expect to encounter include the Brim City Outlaws which is Blood, the East Side Rollin' 20s which is Crip, and the extremely dangerous Gangster Two Six Nation which is Folk Nation. Those guys came down from Detroit to gun people down. I enjoyed the following statement from one of the clips no pun intended that I posted - I hope you enjoy reading it. Living in Cleveland can be hard with not many jobs and someone is always trying you. With violence and drugs thriving here the streets are always live. |

Getting concerned over agricultural carbon emissions is the half-step measure for people who are unwilling or afraid to make the plunge and really reduce carbon emissions. The only way we're going to actually make any difference in terms of carbon emissions is to go with carbon-free energy sources, and the only carbon free fuel source is nuclear power. Until we start adopting nuclear power en masse, I don't see why we should bother with these less-than-quarter measures.Agriculture is a perfect example. It's claimed a third of worldwide carbon emissions come from agriculture. But most of those emissions are really a reflection of just how inefficiently we produce and transport goods. Most of Britain's "agricultural" carbon emissions come from post-production processing and transport, mostly because they haul them in from all across Europe. Similarly, China's agricultural emissions are largely from the production of fertilizer, because they use coal fired power plants to supply those factories. So the problem is not the emissions from the farm, it's a systemic issue. Go to high temperature, low pressure nukes (or fusion if you want to wait 30 years for no discernable benefit) to replace all energy sources, not just electrical production, create carbon neutral synthetic transportation fuels with carbon dioxide from the atmosphere or dissolved in seawater, and you slash the share of "agricultural" emissions down to practically nothing. As it turns out while cows fart a lot, they don't emit nearly as much as the farm's tractor and harvester. Fuel them up with carbon neutral diesel and nobody will care what comes out the cow's ass except the farmer. IMHO going vegan to "save the planet" is a bit of a litmus test. If someone thinks their diet is going to have a significant impact one way or another they're probably prone to repeating environmental woo garbage. |
