Call me at 934

Suffolk is adding a new area code 934. The good side is it will be an overlay for new numbers. The downside is in 2016 all calls in Suffolk will need 10-digit dialing. Lucky I have most frequent numbers on speed dial.

After a year or so you get used to dialing 11 digits for everything.

I now have to be careful if I'm somewhere that still has 7 digit dialing.

So what? Its not like you have to file 631 if you are a 631 number already....only new numbers in the new area code. No different than dialing someone in Nassau or people with 516 cell phones

I assume you mean dial.

When 917 got added as an overlay to 212, people at 212 phones had to start dialing 1-212-xxx-xxxx. So I think you will have to start dialing 1-631-xxx-xxxx from a 631 phone.

Oh, for the good old days on picking up the phone and saying: "Good morning Ruth, give me Skunkhaven 321," or even: "Jenny Smith, please."

I still did that once as recently as 1979!

Really? Later than I would have thought. Where?

You could still order a party line in Brooklyn in the '50s.

I'm surprise that Nassau still has only one area code.

In 1979, my parents stayed at the only motel in White Pass, WA, which was served by the White Pass Telephone Company. I needed to call them. The motel's telephone number, in its entirety, was "White Pass #1."

Nassau and Suffolk used to share 516. And Brooklyn was 212.

They should have paid people who got stuck with a new area code. Businesses especially had to change signs, ads, posters, business cards...

I was told 30+ years ago by people who worked for AT&T that they did pay for new stationery and signs.

Would the call actually fail? There is no reason why it should.

I dunno about you, but I pick up my cell phone, say "Okay Google, call Jenny", and it calls Jenny.
