If the gun the subject is brandishing is realistic so that it is virtually indistinguishable from a real gun then shooting him/her is unfortunate but it is the only possible responseWould you wait for said "mentally ill 12-year old" to shoot first, possibly killing a cop or a bystander? We know now that the gun was a toy but cops have to proceed on the premise that it is real, unless it is obviously fake like an orange colored water gun |
