Posted by AlM on Fri Oct 24 09:34:28 2014, in response to Re: NEW Case of Ebola In NYC, posted by Train Dude on Fri Oct 24 09:24:46 2014. The solution was to put anyone with a visa stamp from western Africa under a mandatory 21 day quarantine.Suppose ebola turns out to really be quite easy to contract. Someone from western Africa goes to an essentially ebola-free country (let's say India). People in that country contract ebola from the original source. Those people then go to the US and infect people there. So the only draconian solution that might work is for a worldwide ban on travel from the affected countries. But that would prevent medical help and food from reaching those countries. That would make the outbreaks there worse, and increase the number of people who could then spread it to the rest of the world through evasion of the travel ban. So there are good statistical reasons to think the draconian solution wouldn't work any better either. |

That's the bullshit weak argument from the zerobamas and uber-liberals. Of course you neglect to consider charter flights for humanitarian purposes. But lets deal with what we know is true. Let's not deal with a doomsday scenario just to make workable solutions appear unworkable - liberal debating 101. |

That's where I started out. I was looking at the extreme case as a contrast. We know that no one who came into contact with Eric Duncan in the US contracted ebola. And per Stephen we know that Dr. Spencer acted in a way that was not likely to spread the disease, namely quarantining himself as soon as he had even slight symptoms. |
