In a perfect world....yes, but how many people haven't gotten a job based on "who they know", who their father knows, who their mother's friend knows, and so fort.
"Someone's success in life should be based on personal abilities" looks great on paper, but unfortunately that's not the way it's done.

That;s great, but Al asked for a "simple answer", and that's all the info he gave for a "simple" response.

No, but she was.
Are you going to turn down any "inheritance" whether it be money, a house, or a just a beautiful vase (fill in any blank) you get from your mom and dad when they unfortunately (but eventually for all of us) pass on? What makes you deserve their "fortune" any more than anyone else?

Why should someone who unfortunately had disadvantages have any more right than someone else that was lucky enough not to have those disadvantages?

Because government should try to give people a hand where it can do it effectively.

Same reason we don't have the same taxation system that France had under Louis XVI or that Somalia has now.

At the expense of others that also worked hard to get where they are, but someone with less academic achievement can just take it away from them, because of government interference.

So because we can't make it 100% perfect, we shouldn't try to make it somewhat less imperfect?

USNR rankings penalize colleges if accepted students don't enroll. colleges care(imho far too much) about USNR rankings.

I wasn't talking general principle, I was talking the decision in THIS particular case. Kennedy clearly stated in the majority opinion, "This case is not about how the debate about racial preferences should be resolved. It is about who may resolve it."

Did you read the decision?
