He apparently had a stroke.

The band survived the death of Bon Scott in 1980 and Malcolm's inability to tour in 1988.

AC/DC retirement rumors center on founding guitarist Malcolm Young's health

The iconic rockers were supposed to tour in honor of the band's 40th anniversary, but now Australian media is reporting they may be forced to break up.

Fans of iconic rockers AC/DC were left thunderstruck amid swirling rumors that the band was set to break up over health issues plaguing guitarist Malcolm Young.

The reports first surfaced in the band's native Australia when entertainment pundit Peter Ford said on the radio Monday, "The suggestion is being put to me that tour will never happen and we will never see AC/DC perform again or record again,"

Speculation continued to mount, with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting hours later that a retirement press conference could take place Tuesday in Australia.

The day, however, passed without any official word from the band.

Sources told Billboard magazine that the rumored demise of the band simply wasn't true.

AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson had told Florida radio station 98.7 the Gater earlier this year that the band was set to hit a Vancouver recording studio in May to record a new album — the group's first since 2008's "Black Ice."

The band had originally planned a tour this summer for its 40th anniversary, but that had at least been delayed.

"One of our boys was pretty ill, so we didn't like to say anything," Johnson said in his radio interview in February, "and we're very private about things like this, so we didn't wanna say anything. And he's a very proud man."

Yeah....I saw that. Sad....I guess it had to happen sometime. I only saw them once in concert.....in Dayton Beach at some arena in the 90s.

AC/DC: revealed the disease of Malcolm Young

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, guitarist Malcolm Young has dementia, after a stroke that had affected him last year.

Malcolm is currently in a nursing home in Sydney, Australia.

A Young family connection told the newspaper:
If you were in the room with [Malcolm] and walked out, then came back in one minute later, he wouldn't remember who you are.

He has a complete loss of short-term memory.

His wife, Linda, has put him in full-time care.
