Here is a picture of the Sears Roebuck in Hackensack I used to go to when I was a tike. It is not too far from the USS Ling submarine that is berthed in the Hackensack River - I want to become a docent on that thing and in time I will. I ate at the venerable which means great Heritage Diner a couple years ago and I saw one of those docents or at least I think it was one of those docents fishing from the bow of the USS Ling. It was ludicrous. |

That is a local landmark; a few blocks from the bus terminal and a major transfer point itself (Main & Anderson Streets).It looks pretty sad now; a shame that all the windows were cemented in. While active downtown department stores are something of a throwback and I hate seeing whatever ones are left close, I can't wait for this Sears to close up and another owner move in and renovate this building into a gem. No reason why it can't be another department store though - look at Century 21 which opened across from the Morristown Green. |

I remember when the Hackensack Sears used to sell VW's, before they developed a national dealer network! Hackensack was a great place to shop in the 1950's and early 60's. The trouble with Hackensack was that the malls killed its downtown. Even the theatres are gone. Plus, having Riverside Square just north of it didn't help. But, that said, even the Paramus Park Sears is like a morgue on weekdays. Ditto for the Paramus K-Mart. I think that Sears/K-Mart will both go under together. |

I think the photos and the articles are misleading. Where exactly were the outlets where the photos were taken? The article says only in "New York and New Jersey". But where, exactly? The Bronx? Newark?Truth is, many stores located in lower-income areas are not maintained nor stocked properly when compared to stores in higher-income areas. For example, you would expect a Sears or any other store to be better maintained in an area like Bayside or Glen Oaks in Queens or East Meadow in Nassau than in some parts of Brooklyn or the Bronx. Ditto Jersey. I don't think you can generalize the condition of the entire Sears organization by the condition of a few stores in New York and New Jersey. |

The Sears Hardware stores are closing little by little. Sears Hardware were started in the 90's when the mega-home improvement places took off. They are really nice if you just need simple stuff like paint or a paintbrush, tools, etc. Two have closed in the last two years, and we still have one nearby, but as mentioned, they are probably riding out the lease. |

Red light cameras give tickets when all four tires have NOT entered the intersection when the light turns red.Most have laws that state you must stop for a yellow light unless you have passed the point of no return. Please proved proof of your claim for "Garden City", that this is NOT the case. As well as the "plenty of municipalities that have stop at yellow laws". |
