Today is Bike to Work Day! |
|
|
Posted by WMATAGMOAGH on Fri May 17 04:39:38 2013 Today is Bike to Work Day in many localities, including New York City and Washington, DC. Over 10,000 are expected to take part in the latter city. I already rode 18 miles this morning but I don't advise anyone else to follow my example, as discussed here cycling is very dangerous. Instead, you all should either join me at Malha Railway Station in about an hour, I'm going to go railfanning on the Jerusalem Light Rail with a friend who lurks on this board, or at the Egalitarian minyan where I'll be leading services tonight. Just hop on a jet plane and hope it doesn't crash on the way.Have a nice day! (This post is 100% Latin Free) |

Just hop on a jet plane and hope it doesn't crash on the way. i'd rather fly jetBlue, seat 25A before biking the way you do. don't worry about flying. tens-of-thousands of flights take off and land safely every day. |

If you lived in a place where millions rides their bike to work in spite of the weather and toxic pollution because they are too poor to do otherwise it's not so trendy any more. |

I also led Shacharit at Robinson's Arch for the Masorti Movement's hashkama minyan Wednesday morning, a very fascinating venue to lead davening at (ever lead davening with birds chirping loudly and circling overhead?) and found the experience to be very meaningful. |

Buses yes, as for streetcars, only San Francisco, a small part of Philadelphia and a couple of oddballs that have a few PCC cars. National City Lines did a kill job in San Diego, Baltimore, Philadelphia and bunch of other cites. |

Funny thing ... according to a survey that was on network news the other night, better than 23% of "Millenials" have no plans to ever drive and are the heaviest proponents of mass transit. This could get interesting. :) |

If it does not use trolley poles it's not a streetcar. BTW the term "light rail" was taken from the British term for railroads not built to main line standards by old Urban Mass Transit Administration to sell surface rail lines (usually using pantographs) that got rid of streetcars. (Like Baltimore did.) |

True, but Manhattan never used trolley poles, and Washington only used conduit in the old District part, overhead was used the rest of the system. |

The district border has been unchanged since 1847. You must be referring to the old border between the City of Washington and Washington County, which was abolished in 1871. |
