I've only been posting since SubChat 1999, it's understandable that you won't recognize the handle.Allow me to educate you: I am talking about the big bang, what I assume your "mustard seed" statement is referring to. It was first proposed by a Catholic priest. Both that and the theory of evolution are accepted by the Catholic church. Partially in response to the the Galileo mistake (shared by Catholic and Protestant sects alike), the Catholic Church reaffirmed this precept (snippet from WikiPedia): "The Church contends that natural reason, being a God-given capacity, is not opposed to the Church's teachings and the church therefore holds that its role throughout history has led to progress of science and intuitive reasoning." Source: 1st Vatican Council Dei Filius (see Chapter 4). It seems some Protestant sects have not learned from their mistake and are repeating it with dismissing the Big Bang theory. They are doing a good job at discrediting themselves with this. In this manner creationism is doing far more harm than good for faith in God. |

I'm afraid you don't know all the handles on all three boards - if you did, you would know mine.As for "why it is understandable": it was sarcasm. I guess it went over your head, I do apologize for that. It is sometimes hard to gauge the level of those you are conversing with via text alone. In any case while I have been posting on Sub* for 14 years now, I don't believe I've ever had the pleasure of a conversation with you. I've seen your name all over the boards so it appears you have a lot to say. However, judging by the 3 minute timestamp between my previous response and yours, it seems you have trouble listening to what others have to say and ignore responses entirely when they contradict whatever perception you already had coming in to the conversation. I am puzzled as to why you are calling a presentation of facts "trolling" but I suppose that is a failing of my understanding of your character. Perhaps you are allergic to them in some way - if so, I apologize for causing you discomfort. In any case, I guess I'm a bit late but I guess I should say "welcome to SubChat"! |

Posted by New Flyer #857 on Fri Feb 15 21:00:50 2013, in response to Atheism, posted by Jeff Rosen on Fri Feb 15 18:56:15 2013. I'm always up for bashing atheism but the atheists who have thought it through don't believe that there was nothing but rather that there is an infinite regress of causes -- no beginning or end to the observable universe, and so no need for anything transcendent.I still find that those who take up that philosophy become anti-intellectualist in their dodging of many major questions. They will say that change in the universe does not call for an explanation and deny that there is any meaning at all to it (before going on to say that human beings "deserve" or are "meant" for freedoms x, y, and z). That's my biggest qualm. If there is no need to seek after the meaning of the universe, then stop acting like there is meaning to your life and stop promoting selfist, individualist philosophies that attempt to cheaply satisfy this craving for meaning. |

Dial-up, AOL. You had to make several attempts to connect on Sunday evenings when usage apparently peaked. And nobody could use the phone in the house while you were online.January 2000 - I discovered TransiTAlK (today's TTMG). A couple of months later I started following BusTalk and SubTalk and joined them one at a time before the year ended. Still remember how I couldn't believe how many people shared my transit interests. |

We had dial up, forgot through who but never had any issue with peak. And yes, not being able to use the phone was annoying. I do remember TransiTalk, I still have a folder "midis from TransiTalk" since I saved the background music from the different pages. Now I remember... I discovered SubTalk at the recommendation of a friend in 1999 (after I asked how he knew what the heck 0R-1R719 were, since I saw it every morning), but I lurked until that post. So since lurking cannot be proven I guess I'll have to start saying I've been here since 2000. |

Yeah, back when I joined in 2000, my handle's namesake bus, the 2000 New Flyer C40LF #857 had just been delivered. I remember seeing it on its first day of service, before the JG sticker was even on! It was the first time I was ever conscious of seeing a bus on its first day of service. That bus has since been tragically retired and I'm still around nearing 13 years, if we don't count the 2004 move from the Talks to the Chats. I still can't believe I've been posting under this general message board layout since 2000, and when I joined back then I was brand new and never thought the day would come when I would call myself a veteran (relatively).(I plan on keeping my handle as long as no other 857 is around. If the next 857 is not a New Flyer model of some kind I may change). |

I think that I got AOL around 1998, but dial-up was so slow that I didn't spend much time on the internet. Plus I was really slow in finding the interesting bits of the internet. I only found subchat because of Newkirk Plaza David, Clear Aspect, R7 Torresdale Express, R30A, South Ferry, Terrapin (barely), and DJG (barely). |
