Posted by bingbong on Tue Feb 5 12:16:24 2013, in response to Today in Guns, posted by bingbong on Sat Feb 2 18:39:56 2013. Feb 5, 2013Slate has bee running a gun violence counter. Since Dec 14, 2012 (the day of the Newtown Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting) it's 1577 as of this posting. That's as accurate a number as they can get, yet is probably doesn't cover the complete picture as they need to depend on individuals reporting local news. Why isn't the government collecting this data? Why isn't every gun related incident required to be reported to the a central database so we can truly ascertain the depth and breadth of gun violence in America? Then we'd be able to act responsibly about it based on fact. |

You've yet to come up with a better idea.About a quarter million guns are stolen from their legal owners every year. The number of gun violence deaths have been rising through the past decade. That is roughly the time period since the 1994 assault weapons ban sunset. Mass murder incidences are on the rise. Reports of the mentally ill getting gun permits surface almost daily. The system of background checks is failing us and needs to be strengthened, loopholes eliminated. Over 90% of ALL Americans agree with this. WTF is YOUR problem? |

Let's ban baseball bats, wooden 2x4's, chairs, and anything else you can use to potentially hurt or kill someone! Why not do that, huh? Maybe if you weren't so thick-headed, I'd take you more seriously, but you continue to be naive enough to think that you can stop criminals from getting guns, when the truth is: THERE'S NO STOPPING THEM! Prosecute the offenders who violate the law, it's the only thing you can do! |

Guns are the only tools that are.LOL! Then you say "prosecute the offenders who violate the law" yet you complain about making the laws to solve the problem, and then cut government budgets to eliminate enforcement resources. |

You just want to sleep better at night, believing that less guns would mean less crime! Not by a longshot! Posted by bingbong on Thu Feb 7 12:46:59 2013, in response to Re: Today in Guns, posted by mcorivervsaf on Thu Feb 7 12:21:22 2013. You don't get it. I'm not anti-gun. I'm PRO-public safety. Getting assault weapons off the streets is a good start. They serve no purpose for hunting, and are not necessary for personal defense. Mandating training and skill upkeep though licensing (the education period, a month plus, allows for a thorough background check) also serves the public interest. Anyone that has a gun should know what to do with it and have the means to store it safely so others cannot access it. That does not infringe anyone's rights. In fact it protects them. That would reduce the almost quarter million guns stolen from their owner's homes every year. You need to rethink your pro-gun violence crusade. Shooting everything in sight won't solve the problem. In fact,it IS the problem. Too many people want that to be the only solution. It would only make everything WORSE. |

Enjoy what you can as you can! :-) You have 4 days......Newark is likely to be closed. I think you'll be ok. Saw the latest models and this storm is likely to be a winter version of Sandy. Because of the snow and ice, the subways and tunnels shouldn't be flooded, but everything on the surface will come to a grinding halt. It is understood that planes operate above the surface of the earth, but their operation, of which you are paid to control, begin and end on the surface. So IMO you can prepare for a day or two of a quiet phone. Looks like you have. Good stuff, eh? |
