I'm not sure what you mean by "middle-class hand wringing"In this case, it's complaints from the middle class about the actions of the lower classes. In other words, as I've noted from my nephew, you can tell a bunch of kids in the ghetto to act more middle class, and some of them couldn't be bothered to listen. If the parade emotions and possibly the incidental drinking lead to this much carnage every year then government has an obligation to protect the citizenry. Which is why NYPD has such heavy presence at this parade, but it's highly unlikely that you'll see the termination of the parade permit in future years. |
