Had a legal marriage union been called something else for legal purposes your statement would be valid. However, the 1040, Social Security, and many other official documents Americans use throughout their lives designate "married" as the legal union state. The designation of marriage/married has to remain.In many other countries, only legal marriage is recognized and every couple needs to have a civil court ceremony in order to be considered married. IMO that's how it should be for every couple. |
