Right off the top of my head, I can thinl of reasons why the Scouts' discrimjnation against gays is "necessarily" bad: It teaches young Scouts that being gay is so unacceptably wrong that no gay teen or adult may become a member. It shows teens who discover they are gay, that Scouting finds them unacceptable just because of who they are. It reinforces the ostracism they may already have experienced in their families, churches, or schools. It sends a direct message to society at large, that homophobia is a core value of Scouting.Wrong - - the Boy Scouts is a private orgnization which abides by the code and morals. Excluding gays is not homophobic, unlike you assume it is. Have you thought it may be a moral issue which they want to teach to all boy scouts? |
