The distinction was intended to illustrate that older men did not participate in the hunt, regardless of sexual orientation.In the Ogala Sioux tribes, heterosexual men were hunters. Gay men were protectors...they dressed as women and lived within the tribe. Yes, they too were able bodied but functioned in a different role....they would provide protection for the women and children while the men, their husbands, were off at the hunt. There is no doubt this involved acts of bravery equal to any "legendary warrior". |
