The NYT article is seven years old, and Musto;s tongue-in-cheek VV column is satirical.

The gyms I've belonged to (Crunch, and later David Barton) are very strict about enforcing the rules against sex on their premises, and at that, if I met someone in a gym who wanted sex with me, we have a choice of his place or mine. I haven't seen this "rampant sex" among men in the city's gyms, which you want to believe is so prevalent.
