I always thought that it was really a common sense issue that when you get a prescription from a Dr. it's meant for you. You don't share it or let others try it out. Over the weekend I had a conversation with a casual friend whom I've not seen in a while. This was her story.

This 56 year old woman was in a horrific auto accident several years ago. Her car was sandwiched by two 18-wheelers on the Jersey Tpke. She suffered numerous leg and back injuries and a "traumatic brain injury". To deal with the pain of 2 knee replacements and other surgeries, she was given Morphine pain patches. While on a visit to another state, visiting her brother, her brother wanted to try one of the patches. Because the brother was morbidly obese, she put two on him and on on his wife (who also wanted to try the drug). The next morning - they found him dead of morphine intoxication.

Needless to say, they have the funeral and during the inquest she acknowledged that she had given him the patches and had, in fact put them on. She returned to New York and several weeks later she gets a phone call from the District Attorney from that locality, asking her to return there to surrender herself. She's been charged with manslaughter. She is currently back in NY on bail.

Anyway, there are several morals to this story but the one I'm referring to is don't share your meds.
