The figures for the penalty were based on the industry's own actuarials to come out WAY ahead in the deal. Putting aside the prattle from the TV and radio, look into the Kaiser deal along with the pharmaceutical industry deal that paved the way for this all to happen. It isn't the pre-existing condition part of the equation that hurt the industry, it was the emergency rooms for toothaches. By making EVERYBODY pay in, they get the benefit of all those people who won't be costing more than the annual checkup.When the HMO deals were made back in Reagan's time, this was proven until people bailed from that plan. That's WHY the mandate. Rest assured that the industry signed off on this. Ever wonder why all the complaints about Obamacare AREN'T coming from the insurers? |
