Your analysis is flawed. You are defining "conservative" and "liberal" to suit your POV. If a religious figure does things you like, he is a religious liberal; not like, a religious conservative. So you are trying to put the stamp of "liberal" on religion when it suits you to reinforce your arguments.

Mother Theresa liberal? If you quote her on taking care of the poor, she seems like a political liberal; but libs don't quote her on her views on abortion.

Ghandi? He was a religious fanatic. His non-violence was so extreme that he believed that the Jews should not have resisted Hitler; that, by dying, they would have held the moral high ground. Thanks a lot, Ghandi.

And Jesus? His driving out the money changers and opposition to the priesthood makes him look like a liberal by political standards, but that same opposition would mean a return to religious principles from corruption looks like conservatism to me.

Unlike your assertion, I am not going to equate political and religious terminology. People are what they do. But you have conceded an important point that religion is not inherently better or worse than other philosophies.
