Your first paragraph illustrates my point. As a modern liberal, you equate the inclusiveness of "promote the general welfare" with the selectivity of deciding which groups are oppressed enough to be promoted, so to speak.

And liberals have become as expert as old King George in deciding whose grievances to redress. Are you an upper-class minority that wants to get into a select school? You are entitled to Affirmative Action. Are you a lower-class minority that would like your kid to have a shot at a better school? How dare you leave your peers, you wannabe elitist? And are you poor white trash that wants to defend what little you've worked for? Get thee out of my sight, you racist tea-bagging bastard.
