We allow double jeopardy in this country all the time, where there is a state acquittal and then the Federal Government steps in and tries the same case again, often under civil rights law. Seems like double jeopardy to me (being twice put in jeopardy for the same crime), but lawyers like Ed Koch say "it's two different sovereigns." |
