It was founded on the principles that if you follow the laws of the land, as a citizen you'll be granted certain inalienable rights. What religion you practice and how you practice it (including voodoo) were none of the government's business. While there is some basis to make the claim that our system was based on the Ten Commandments, the fact that each of the commandments may not be treated with equal value in our legal system, and the fact that we have laws not addressed in the Ten Commandments, proves that this is not in any way so. |
