That makes it fraud. Trying to obtain money through false pretenses. No need for fancy laws.

It would be fraud only if prosecutors could prove to a jury that winning the prize or other monies was directly related from his fabricating his military exploits.

Any decent defense attorney would shoot that down quickly in the case of a supposedly merit-based but still subjective contest like AGT.

That's why you need a stand-alone law like the SVA.
