There is something discomforting about a member of senior management of a church running for President.

When JFK ran for President, he could rightly say that American principles were supreme in his decisions, not Catholic ones, if there was a conflict.

But suppose Cardinal Dolan ran for President? He's an American, but he's also made a lifelong commitment to a foreign organization whose goals may conflict with the goals of the US. It's very different from being in senior management of a corporation. When you quit your job in the corporation, you have no more obligations to them. But Cardinal Dolan can never relinquish his obligations to the Catholic Church.

Dolan has the legal right to run for President. But it sure would raise questions if he did.
