Frank has given a really good reason for not wanting the President to attend a function of his. It's a reminder of how our Presidents are now protected like third-world dictators, closing down whole sections of cities if the Prez is going to be in the area.I recall standing on the corner of Church Avenue and Marlborough Road in 1964 to see LBJ go by with with RFK in an open car. Huge crowds, non-oppressive police presence, only a few gummint cars in the lead and after the car passed we all ran after the car until it was almost out of sight. Mind you, this was less than half a year after JFK was assassinated in an open car in Dallas. It took us a while longer to get really paranoid. |
