What about his upbringing do you think led to him not being totally accepting of gay marriage? Something in Hawaii or Indonesia?

No, it has to do with being 50 or over as opposed to 30 or younger.

My standing on the issue has also evolved over time but more quickly than Obama's because I'm under 45.
