The media knew all about JFK and his women--particularly Marilyn Monroe. It was an open secret, but in those days, there was a gentlemen's understanding between the White House and the Press Corps not to print things like this. You're right, though, JFK would never have survived such a thing in today's 24-hour, feeding-frenzy news environment. You can't begin to imagine how closely the President is watched by contemporary media until you've actually been in a WH press briefing. It's INSANE. Trust me on this. |
