And having a few small parties who hold a disproportionate of the power to keep the ruling coalition in place has big drawbacks as well.Indeed it does. Italy partially corrected the problem by introducing a minimum 4% threshold for entry into Parliament. That reduced the number of tiny parties and the ensuing unstable and incoherent coalition governments that came with it to a large degree. Israel probably needs to do the same. 4 or 5% is about the right number I think. |
