Think about it. By having a visible public presence at an event whose central theme is organized labor, the TWU is raising awareness about its members, who take the 99% (who buy Metrocards and vote on transit issues) to and from work, school, and recreation. The public elects politicians who may be favorable to the TWU's cause, (and who appoint the MTA board members with whom the TWU must do business), so I think it behooves the union to be seen at events like OWS. |
