European monarchies, require that marriages be approved by the current monarch in order for the children to be considered legitimate and therefore able to inherit the throne. While useless in modern times when the true power rests in an elected parliament, it would have been gravely important in the days of Absolut Monarchy.So mafia heads are just following that tradition when it comes to their heirs. |
