It was the night before the 2002 Vermont gubernatorial election and I went to sleep with the majority of polls showing Jim Douglas (R) trailing Doug Racine (D) by 10% in the race to replace Howard Dean. Douglas defeated Racine 45% - 42%. Douglas went on to be re-elected 3 times which for Vermont, by and large a progressive leaning, Democratic constituency, was an extraordinary accomplishment. To better illustrate my point, Grace Potter of the band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals was raised in my small town of Waitsfield. I do not like that band so I will not provide any pictures, clips, or links, and thanks again.
