If HCR was actually implemented the way it was supposed to be, the only thing that would have changed is who pays the bills, in this case Uncle Sam. The healthcare system we have today would still operate as it always did, and--imagine THIS--a few hospitals might actually re-open. I shudder every time I pass by the moribund hulk of Mary Immaculate or St. Vincent's Hospitals. There was truly no legitimate reason for these institutions to have closed.Oh, and socialized medicine has been alive and well in the United States since the end of WWII. It's called the VA. Somehow, they've managed to operate just fine over the years, without convening "death panels" or turning patients away... |
