There is a widely-held (correctly, in my opinion) that the tax code is skewed in favor of the rich. And I’m not the only one who has this view: otherwise why would the Alternative Minimum Tax exist? There are a lot of loopholes for those with money to pay the tax accountants and the lobbyists. A lot of them were established with a real, benefit-the-country goal, but have since fallen by the wayside to become nothing more than a tax avoidance measure. Unfortunately many incentives to viable economic activity have been subverted into tax avoidance schemes by accountants. Would that the Right mandated the same level of disclosure—“This deduction, while technically legal, is completely against the spirit of the applicable regulation”—that they are trying to apply to abortions. |
