I'll concur with the expoeriences of Dr Web's folks as far as talking to Apple. Last year, during another major outbreak, I called Apple with analysis of a fake AV trojan that was hitting far and wide and some recommendations as to how to stop it. After several days of emails back and forth, did a conference call with their VP of Security. Gave up all the data I had, got blown off. Took them about four months before they finally did something about that. Had they listened, they could have had a detection definition inside their own security monitor but chose not to.As for the number of infected Billyboxes, it tends to average between 5 and 8 percent of all machines. But that number is larger than the total number of Mac users. FWIW, Microsoft *is* getting a little better with their defense and Apple is going straight to hell on it. Here's hoping that THIS episode finally causes them to "think different." :) |
